Abu Dhabi Ports, formally known as the Abu Dhabi Ports Company, was established in 2006. Abu Dhabi Ports Company is a renowned developer of ports and industrial zones within Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Ports was established when the Abu Dhabi Seaports Authority (ADSA) was restructured. The launch of the two industrial projects has put Abu Dhabi Ports on the map of the largest ports and industrial zones in the world.

Abu Dhabi Ports projects

Khalifa Port became fully operational in 2012 and provides six of the World’s largest ship-to-shore cranes. Currently, Khalifa Port has a storage capacity of 2.5 million containers and can handle 12 million tons of cargo. By 2030, Khalifa Port is expected to expand its storage capacity to 15 million containers and 35 million tons of cargo to be kept in its facilities.

The Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi, shortly known as Kizad, is among the largest industrial zones in the UAE and will continue to expand. Abu Dhabi Ports Company plans to attract some of the largest foreign companies in the world.

According to the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, Kizad will occupy over 418 square kilometers and will help the Emirate turn its oil-based economy into a non-oil-based one. The project is meant to close the gap between Abu Dhabi and Dubai when it comes to the diversity of industries. It is a known fact that Dubai has a diversified economy, while Abu Dhabi still relies on the oil and gas industries.
